Spoonful Of Sugar – Shudder Movie Review!

Advertisements

Hi all!

Today I am reviewing a relatively new horror titled: Spoonful of Sugar. As mentioned last month, I really want to make better use of my Shudder subscription. The story follows a disturbed babysitter, who experiences a sexual awakening while using LSD, to treat a seemingly sick child from a family with dark secrets. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Spoilers Ahead!

WHAT WORKED:

I thought the lead actress was brilliant. I would love to see her in future horror films. She definitely had a manic, wild energy to her that pairs beautifully with the genre. I was transfixed by her acting. I also didn’t mind the deranged ending. Unfortunately, that’s where my positive comments end.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK:

For a horror version of Mary Poppins, it was quite disappointing and lacklustre. It had so much potential. They really could have taken this story to another level, but it didn’t go anywhere. It was slow-paced, nauseating at times and uninspired. I was irritated by every single character, except the lead. I also didn’t buy a lot of what was being presented. The parents were strange, the therapist was an unethical creep and the kid – don’t get me started! Let’s just say, the medicine did not go down. Ouch!

OVERALL STAR RATING:

I gave it 2.5/5 stars. It wasn’t awful, it just wasn’t good.

Thank you so much for reading! Have you seen Spoonful of Sugar?

Peace & Love xoxo
