Hi all!
This weekend just gone, I travelled to Brisbane to attend The Snera’s Tour: a live show for a Taylor Swift themed podcast named Evolution of a Snake. Not only did I get to meet Zack (the Swiftologist) and his co-host, Madeline (The Lizard Review), Bonny & Emily from Chats & Reacts were their special guests for the evening! If you are not a Swiftie, this post probably won’t make sense but I appreciate you reading it anyway. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
Why is the Swiftologist so Controversial?
I’m actually a Patreon member for Chats & Reacts, not Evolution of a Snake, so when I found out they were going to be there, I was overjoyed! What I wasn’t expecting was the discourse about Bonny & Emily’s collaboration with Zack. A few people even left the Patreon; unable to support the girls going to his show. So why is the Swiftologist so controversial? Quite simply, Zack is unafraid to be critical of Taylor Swift and other pop-culture artists. Not to get too preachy but we exist in a world fraught with cancel-culture. The minute a person says one negative thing, they are a hater. I don’t subscribe to those extremes. I would like to believe critical thinking is still accepted and celebrated but as I’ve seen, that is not always the case. What I can attest to, is that Zack sometimes puts his foot in his mouth. He has said things before even he has openly regretted. Sometimes he will share an opinion without expecting it to go viral. All of a sudden, the entire world and the celebrities he’s reacting to, are weighing in. I really appreciate his ability to be nuanced and objective when it comes to Taylor. Everything he says and does is lighthearted. It’s not meant to be taken too seriously. Bonny & Emily exist on the other end of the spectrum. They diehard love Taylor; rarely faulting her. It was great to see two different pairings come together; positively influencing one another. I’m not saying you have to love Zack, but as someone who has been a fan from the beginning, I do think he is widely misunderstood.
The theme for the Australian leg of the tour was The Era’s Era. We could wear whatever we wanted, from any era of Taylor Swift. I chose a version of the magenta sparkly t-shirt dress from the Midnights set on the Era’s Tour, which I paired with matching ‘bejeweled’ heels. I also purchased the VIP Meet & Greet package, which included a pre-show Q&A, plus photo opportunity. I was able to ask them what they thought of my Taylor Swift themed tattoo and have a chat. They were both so lovely and generous with their fans. Then it was time for the show!
It was so nice seeing four of my favourite people in one room discussing our queen: Taylor. The conversations were respectful and interesting. They disagreed at times but it was always done in a mature way. Despite how you may feel, it’s important to keep these conversations open. Many laughs and ‘fathomings’ were had.
The show ran for about 90 minutes and I can safely say, it was the diva summit we all needed. It was recorded and will be up on the official Evolution of a Snake Patreon. If you’re desperate for quality Swiftie contact, I recommend checking them out. I’m so thrilled I got to go. This was a once-in-a-lifetime event!
Do you follow Evolution of a Snake/Chats & Reacts? Thank you for reading!
Peace & Love xoxo
