Big Birthday Book Haul!

—

Hi all!

I’m 31 today, so I thought I would share an extra special post, showcasing all the books I received/purchased for my birthday! Thank you to those that gave me books as gifts or money to buy the ones I really wanted. I have a huge haul to get through, so let’s not delay!

1.) Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare

Can we talk about how stunning this cover is? It’s just magnificent. This is the first book in The Last Hours series, which takes place after The Infernal Devices, but long before The Mortal Instruments. I have literally read every book Cassandra Clare has ever released, so I am very well versed with the Shadowhunter world. This book is literally my most anticipated read of 2020. The new trilogy follows the next generation of Herondales, Carstairs, Blackthorns & Fairchild’s, as well as an unstoppable plague, that comes with them to London. You can begin from here, but it’s advised to at least have read The Infernal Devices first, for some background history.

2.) The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

I’ll admit, I bought this book for the hype. This thriller/mystery follows a woman who shoots her husband five times one evening, refusing to speak a single word about it. A criminal psychologist uses every trick in his arsenal to gain her confession, but will the truth be too much to bear?

3.) Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

I have not watched the television adaptation yet, as I prefer to read the novel first. This story follows two families living in the 1990s (Shaker Heights), that are brought together by their children. I’ve only heard good things. If anyone has read both the book and watched the show, please let me know which one you think is better.

4.) Aurora Burning by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

Aurora Burning is the sequel to Aurora Rising, which was released in 2019. I read it, loved it and had to get my hands on the next instalment of The Aurora Cycle. I support everything Jay Kristoff  & Amie Kaufman do together. I won’t spoil the plot, but this series overall, follows a ragtag group of squad members in space, that find themselves thrust into an extremely important life or death mission. Prepare to have your heart broken!

5.) Crescent City by Sarah J. Maas

I’m such a huge Sarah J. Maas fan. She wrote the infamous Throne of Glass & ACOTAR series – both of which I loved! Her latest series follows a woman named Bryce, whose friend is murdered by a demon. Enter Hunt, a fallen angel, who offers to help Bryce find the murderer and in return, earn his freedom. Together, they explore the underbelly of Crescent City, stumbling upon a dark power that threatens everything they hold dear.

6.) Me & White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad

This is a non-fiction book I heard about, whilst listening to feminist podcast, The Big Sister Hotline. It is actually a workbook that requires working through. If you want to learn what you can do to help dismantle white supremacy, this is where to begin. I love any book, that not only opens my eyes, but involves journaling!

7.) House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski

I already mentioned this book on my Bookemon TBR, but this remastered, full-colour edition, was a gift from my husband. This story follows a family who move into a house, that is much larger on the inside, than it appears on the outside. It doesn’t take long before voices start echoing through the walls and menacing growls haunt the children.

7.) The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes by Suzanne Collins

I’m so happy to have a copy of this book! This is a prequel to The Hunger Games, from the point of view of President Snow. It is his origin-story, detailing the 10th annual Hunger Games. I’m beyond excited to read it!

8.) Becoming by Michelle Obama

Everyone says this autobiography is so inspiring and uplifting. I love Michelle Obama. She seems so gentle, elegant and wise. I’m really looking forward to reading her story and getting some pearls of wisdom, from her life experiences.

I hope you enjoyed my ginormous book haul! Let me know if you’ve read any of them.

Peace & Love xoxo
