Hi all!
Today I am going share the 5 best doll horror movies. If you didn’t know, haunted dolls/toys are one of my favourite horror sub-genres. I cannot get enough of them. They are so creepy and interesting. My upcoming novella: The Devil Within Me, features a cursed Matryoshka doll for this reason. Disclaimer: the reason I didn’t include Billy from Saw, is because he isn’t the main focus of the films. Trust and believe I love that twisted clown! If you’re interested in my Child’s Play t-shirt, you can order one here. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
1.) Annabelle
Annabelle is my favourite Conjuring film. She is actually based off a real Raggedy Ann doll, owned by Ed and Lorraine Warren. In my personal opinion, the real one is spookier. In the movies, Annabelle is haunted by the spirit of a deceased girl, with the same name. After the Warrens pronounced her demonically possessed, she was kept in a secure glass box in their home, with strict instructions never to open it. Aside from her face, what makes her so creepy is her silence. She never speaks or walks around. Instead, she appears in random places – even hovering at one point in the original film. Her eyes seem to stare into your soul.
2.) Child’s Play
Child’s Play follows little boy, Andy, who receives a Good Guy doll from his mother. What he doesn’t know, is it’s possessed by the spirit of notorious serial killer, Charles “Chucky” Lee Ray. The toy terrorises Andy and his family, eager to resume murdering once again. First off, Chucky is sassy as hell. Voiced by Brad Dourif, he isn’t afraid to insult everybody he comes across. Secondly, this story is just fun. For a little guy, he is downright terrifying and not easy to get rid of. I’m such a fan. I have no idea why I waited so long to watch this iconic movie. Thirdly, a brand-new Chucky television series is coming out next month, with Brad Dourif reprising his role. To say I’m excited is an understatement! Please watch if you haven’t already.
3.) Dead Silence
This movie is so underrated! It was created by my favourite horror director of all time: James Wan. Read more about that here. Jamie Ashen comes home to find his wife, Lisa, disfigured and dead in their apartment, just minutes after a mysterious package was left on their doorstep, containing old ventriloquist dummy, Billy. With no alibi, a detective is left to assume Jamie as the prime suspect. Driven by an mythical ghost story, he returns to Ravens Fair, his old hometown, to prove his innocence. The fable leads him to believe the vengeful ghost of Mary Shaw, was the real murderer. But when Jamie returns to Ravens Fair, he finds out more than he bargained for. The filming, scares and twist at the end, make this a superior horror film. I know I’m over-hyping it, but honestly, if you only watch one film on this list, let it be this one!
4.) The Boy
There are no words to describe how much I love this movie. The sequel, Brahms: The Boy II, was also good, but not like its predecessor. In this film, we follow Greta Evans, an American foreigner, who travels to England in order to escape a possessive ex-boyfriend. She is hired as a nanny by the elderly Heelshires, to care for their young son, Brahms. However, when Greta arrives at the beautiful and vast estate, she realises Brahms is a doll. His parents believe him to be alive. They leave her a strict list of rules to follow, before embarking on a vacation. Greta ignores the rules, unaware that she should be taking them more seriously. It isn’t long before her possessions start to go missing, she can hear a boy crying in the night and the doll seems to move on its own. This movie also has an excellent twist ending, plenty of fantastic scares and stunning visuals. Highly recommend!
5.) Poltergeist
I definitely prefer the original Poltergeist, to the remake. In this film, a family living in a California planned community, begin to experience paranormal activity, after the youngest daughter, Carol Anne, invites spirits into their home via the static on their television screen. Objects start to move around, silverware bends and a creepy clown doll is awakened. It’s such a terrifying, iconic moment in horror history. In the remake, a bunch of horrifying clown dolls attack the youngest son in the attic. It’s most people’s greatest fear come to life on screen. Even if you don’t watch the entire thing, YouTube that particular scene.
I hope you enjoyed this post! Please recommend any and all horror doll movies. Thanks for reading.
Peace & Love xoxo
