Hi all!
Today I am reviewing new-release, horror: Keeper. It hit cinemas this month, allowing me the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen. A woman becomes isolated in a secluded cabin; having to fend off an unspeakable evil. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
WHAT WORKED:
Prepare for a harsh review! The only redeeming thing about Keeper was Tatiana Maslany’s acting. She carried her role beautifully. I would love to add how incredible the cinematography and setting were, however, Osgood Perkins used repetitive shots over and over. I saw the same running stream a hundred times; the same side view of the cabin etc. Unfortunately, I have nothing else positive to contribute.
WHAT DIDN’T WORK:
I don’t know how Osgood managed to make a 100 minute film feel like it was three hours long. There’s slow and then there’s Keeper. For the majority of the runtime, not a single thing happens. By the third act, viewers are given a wacky info dump, followed by an abrupt ending. There’s a good movie in there somewhere, but the whole thing was just far too strange. The entities themselves were not frightening. They just looked like people wearing theatre makeup. Furthermore, the explanations were not satisfying, nor the slog to reach them. I didn’t feel like the payoff was worth the journey. I’m extremely disappointed by this one.
OVERALL STAR RATING:
I gave it 2/5 stars. I do not recommend this film.
Have you seen Keeper? What did you think of it?
Peace & Love xoxo
