Hi all!
Today I am reviewing the period underwear range from Modibodi. If discussing one’s menstrual cycle isn’t your thing, probably best to click elsewhere. I used to use a moon-cup religiously, but after having my daughter, I found myself wanting to less and less. I decided to try a less invasive, more comfortable method. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
1.) What Are Period Undies?
Period undies are a reusable and sustainable leak-proof apparel, replacing the need for moon cups, pads, tampons and panty liners. Modibodi offers a range of sizes and options depending on your flow/days in your menstrual cycle. There is even a swimwear line! They come in adorable prints and designs, to keep you feeling cute during a typically uncomfortable time. The undies contain breathable fabric and moisture wicking absorbency, to repel odours.
2.) Heavy Flow/Overnight Options?
You can order underwear specifically for heavy flow and overnight sleeping. In fact, every pair I own fits this category, as my menstrual cycle can be quite unpredictable.
I ordered: a.) Carbon Neutral Seamfree Full Brief (Moderate – Heavy Absorbency) in Coastal Blue, b.) Recycled Seamfree Full Brief (Heavy-Overnight Absorbency)in Lemon Splice Blue and c.) Recycled Seamfree Full Brief (Moderate – Heavy Absorbency) in Hypnotic Blue. I also own two pairs of Bonds Period Undies for lighter days.
3.) Don’t They Feel Gross During The Day?
I honestly don’t feel gross wearing period underwear. They are super supportive, comfortable and breathable. I like the way I don’t have to worry about leaking. I can just put on a pair and live my best life. If you do have a particularly heavy flow, you can always change throughout the day. In the first couple of days of my menstrual cycle, I wear an overnight pair for extra security and they work great.
4.) How Many Pairs Should I Buy?
This is honestly up to you. In total, I own five pairs (3 from Modibodi and 2 from Bonds). They aren’t cheap but remember, they are sustainable, great quality and reusable. Once you own them, you can rewash and wear as many times as you would a regular pair of undies. There are some great deals on the website you can look out for. You can even invest in a bundle. If a typical period lasts 4-5 days, I would personally purchase 6-8 pairs, so you can account for the night, swimming and necessary changes.
5.) What Are The Downsides To Period Undies?
The biggest downside is the price. A standard pair on the Modibodi website are $35 AUD. You can definitely purchase cheaper options from supermarkets, but I like the quality and designs offered. I would also say the transition from a previous method to period underwear can be challenging. It’s hard to trust you’re not going to leak all over your clothes. You may feel quite paranoid in the beginning. However, with time, you’ll see you have nothing to worry about.
As you can tell, I am really happy with this new method. It works for me. I also want to mention the Modibodi website features plus-size models, models with disabilities, elderly models, all races and shapes. They do not airbrush or manipulate their photos. I love them for this and wish every company would do the same. There is plenty of size inclusivity too. Let me know if you have used period underwear before and what you thought of them.
Thanks for reading! Peace & Love xoxo
