Insidious: The Red Door – New Release Horror Movie Review!

Hi all!

Today I am reviewing new-release, horror: Insidious: The Red Door. It hit cinemas in Australia this month, allowing me the pleasure of seeing it on the big screen. Set ten years after the events of the second movie, Josh Lambert heads east to drop his son Dalton off at an idyllic, ivy-league university. However, Dalton’s college dream soon becomes a nightmare, when the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both. If you wish to check out franchise ranking, click here. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

WHAT WORKED:

This film had some truly iconic and unique scares that unnerved everybody in my cinema. I loved the MRI scene, the figure behind the photographs and Dalton’s chilling paintings. Speaking of, the lead completely stole the show! It was nice they kept the original Lambert family actors. If you strip away the supernatural elements, the plot is quite realistic. It follows a young man estranged from his father, whilst starting at a new college. Throw in astral projection, a red-faced demon and literal ghosts from the past, you’re in for a good time. Make sure you keep an eye out for some familiar faces!

WHAT DIDN’T WORK:

The Red Door is truly for the fans. If you haven’t seen the earlier films, you may struggle to comprehend everything. That isn’t a negative for me, but it could be for others. Furthermore, if you’re hoping to uncover more ‘Further‘ lore, you will probably be disappointed. This instalment doesn’t add anything new to the franchise. It’s more about wrapping up the original storyline.

OVERALL STAR RATING:

I gave it 4.5/5 stars. It’s one of my favourite horrors of 2023.

Thank you so much for reading! Have you seen Insidious: The Red Door?

Peace & Love xoxo
