When Evil Lurks – Shudder Movie Review!

Hi all!

Today I am reviewing new Spanish horror: When Evil Lurks. When two brothers find a demon-infected man, they decide to exterminate him. However, they only succeed in helping deliver the inferno and spreading chaos. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

WHAT WORKED:

This is a film that does not hold back on gore, violence and the grotesque. It gets progressively more disturbing as it goes and let’s just say, children are not off limits. Huge trigger warning! I loved the plot and the pacing. Whilst it wasn’t the most original idea, I enjoyed this take on zombie possession spreading like the plague. Typically, one can eradicate the resurrected with a single gunshot but in this film, death only makes it worse. I found this premise to be very effective and terrifying. It has a helplessness to it that will impress upon viewers the gravity of the situation.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK:

I felt the world could have been expanded further. In a universe where possession is a disease running rampant, it should be less localised and more widespread. I could see this concept being adapted into a television mini-series. It has the potential for much growth. Pun intended!

OVERALL STAR RATING:

I gave it 3.5/5 stars. I definitely recommend it but proceed with caution.

Thank you so much for reading! Have you seen When Evil Lurks yet?

Peace & Love xoxo
