The First Omen – New Release Horror Movie Review!

Hi all!

Today I am reviewing new-release, horror: The First Omen. It hit cinemas in Australia this month, allowing me the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen. The story follows an American woman sent to work at a church in Rome, who uncovers a sinister conspiracy to bring about the birth of the Antichrist. It is a prequel to the 1976 version. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

WHAT WORKED:

Fans of the original film rejoice because there are many homages made in the prequel. This movie delivered in terms of setting up the story for the main event. It even included some new information to add to the overall franchise lore. It was beautifully shot and the 1970’s setting worked perfectly. You really felt like you were in that particular time period. There was a decent amount of gore and scares, but the overall darkness came from the people behind the walls of the convent. The lead, played by Nell Tiger Free, did a phenomenal job. I would recommend The First Omen for her acting alone. Fantastic casting choices and artistic direction by Arkasha Stevenson.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK:

Personally, I think the film ran a little too long. If it had been edited down, I would’ve given it a much higher rating. There were a few scenes that felt quite bizarre and dragged out. It just needed some trimming. That was my main gripe.

OVERALL STAR RATING:

I gave it 3.5/5 stars. I recommend seeing it, especially if you’re a fan of the original.

Thank you so much for reading! Have you seen The First Omen?

Peace & Love xoxo
