Hi all!
Welcome back to The Ultimate Reading Challenge! I outlined in 2022 how the new series will work here, so check that out before progressing further. For my 18th challenge, I was tasked with displaying a quote from a beloved book in my home. Today I am sharing my thoughts on the book, why I chose that particular quote and my prize for completing the prompt. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
Plot: ‘The Five People You Meet In Heaven’ by Mitch Albom:
Eddie is a wounded war veteran; an old man who has lived, in his mind, an uninspired life. His job is fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. On his 83rd birthday, a tragic accident kills him, as he tries to save a little girl from a falling cart. He awakens in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a destination. It’s a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who may have been strangers. One by one, from childhood, to soldier, to old age, Eddie’s five people revisit their connections to him on earth, illuminating the mysteries of his “meaningless” life, and revealing the haunting secret behind the eternal question: “Why was I here?”
Review: ‘The Five People You Meet In Heaven’ by Mitch Albom:
I’ve read this book multiple times in my life. It’s an absolute favourite and comfort to me. I love the idea that you can have a significant impact on somebody else’s life without knowing, only to find out about it in the afterlife. It’s such a touching story. It makes me wonder who my five people would be. Also, if you haven’t already, check out the film adaptation. It’s wonderful, colourful and heart-wrenching.
Why I Chose That Particular Quote:
I chose “all endings are also beginnings” to display in my home, because after recent events in my life, I find it truly relatable. It’s a reminder that it is never too late to start over. As they say, when a door closes, a window opens.
Prize For Completing The Challenge:
My prize for completing the prompt was a large, colourful sticker of a bicycle carting books and flowers. I immediately stuck it in my scrapbook. Cute!
Thank you so much for reading! I will see you next month for a new bookish challenge!
Peace & Love xoxo
