Silent Night, Deadly Night – New Release Horror Movie Review!

Hi all!

Today I am reviewing new-release, horror: Silent Night, Deadly Night. It hit cinemas this month, allowing me the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen. When Billy witnesses his parents’ grisly murder at the hands of Santa, it ignites a lifelong mission to spread holiday fear. Every Christmas, he dons the red suit – embarking on a blood-soaked massacre to feed his twisted sense of justice. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

WHAT WORKED:

Silent Night, Deadly Night is the Christmas version of DexterIf you love gore, violence and justice, this is the film for you. Be warned, it’s not for the faint of heart. I truly enjoyed the way the story was told. It doesn’t give anything away until the final act. Once you realise what is happening, you’re able to reflect on all the parts that didn’t make sense before. I like when an audience isn’t spoon-fed answers but also isn’t left wondering. Additionally, Rohan Campbell’s performance as Billy was outstanding. He was perfect for this role. There was a subtlety to his character – you didn’t quite know whether to root for him or not. I know this is an adaptation from the 1980’s but from what I’ve heard, it takes a more unique spin on things. It has a very full-circle ending that will leave viewers satisfied. I certainly was!

WHAT DIDN’T WORK:

Tonally, this movie could be quite off-putting for viewers. It’s very Hallmark, mixed with romance, comedy, brutality and darkness. I imagine it could be quite jarring, but I was here for it. Furthermore, it’s on the lower budget side, so don’t expect a cinematic masterpiece. With the latest acquisition from Netflix, I’m just grateful films like these are getting theatre releases.

OVERALL STAR RATING:

I gave it 4.5/5 stars. I had such a fun time with this one!

Have you seen Silent Night, Deadly Night? What did you think of it?

Peace & Love xoxo
