Hi all! 

Today I am reviewing new-release, horror/thriller: Fall 2: Deadpoint. It hit cinemas this month, allowing me the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen. A grieving woman and her friend travel to Thailand to tackle a dangerous plank walk on Mount Kwan – as a tribute to her late sister – only to find themselves trapped 3,000 feet in the air by a sudden rockslide. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

WHAT WORKED: 

This franchise continues to deliver! I was already a big fan of Fall and the sequel did not disappoint. It was gripping, thrilling and anxiety-inducing from start to finish. I was actually sweating in the cinema, which doesn’t happen very often. I enjoyed Deadpoint more than the original because it was so adventerous. There were many aspects to the climb, including natural elements, altitude sickness, rickety planks, decrepit skywalks and more. The pacing held my attention the entire time. Furthermore, I like how it tied into the first story, as well as establishing an ending for many future instalments to come. There is so much you can do with a series like this; covering different locations and treacherous situations. Additionally, I did not see the twists coming, nor anticipate just how big an influence Shiloh Hunter had on our two main characters. I appreciated the intent at creating a through-line with the movies; connecting them all together, as the third one is also sure to do. If you’re looking for something that will get your heart racing and adrenaline pumping, look no further than Fall 2. 

WHAT DIDN’T WORK: 

I like to put these types of films into the ‘fun is okay’ category. Are they blockbusters? No. Are they critically acclaimed? No. Do the characters make stupid decisions? Absolutely! We know what we are getting when we sit down to watch a Fall movie. Sure, we could pick them apart for hours on end, but that’s not how they are meant to be viewed. If they didn’t climb, there would be nothing to watch. You need to suspend your disbelief (and expectations), otherwise you’ll drive yourself crazy. If I had to critique Deadpoint, I would focus more on the details that weren’t shown. For example, not once do you see the girls eat food, drink water or go to the toilet. These are basic human necessities they could’ve included. After all, our main character in the first movie ate a dead vulture, such was her starvation. I also thought one of the reveals was quite flimsy in its motivation. The writers could’ve strengthened that particular plot point. However, once you strip all of that back, you have a movie that delivers exactly what it promises. 

OVERALL STAR RATING: 

I gave it 4/5 stars. An intense viewing experience in the best way!
