Hi all!
Today I am back with ‘Horror Movies You May Have Missed In 2026: Part 2′. Check out Part 1 here. I hope these mini reviews inform whomever reading, whether to add said film to their watchlist OR avoid it entirely. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
Note: This post is in partnership with JustWatch.
1.) SOULM8TE
A man acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.
Soulm8te is the latest instalment from the M3GAN universe. Infusing elements from Obsession, Companion and Subservience, this film warns against the lengths one will go to combat loneliness. Despite its lack of originality, I was genuinely impressed by the pacing, creative kills and level of gore. I also found the lead actress, Lily Sullivan, very convincing in her role as an android. She was sexy, yet terrifying. Of the four movies listed in this post, I recommend this one the most.
Rating: 3.5/5
2.) FORBIDDEN FRUITS
At a mall store, Apple leads a secret witch cult with coworkers Cherry and Fig. New hire, Pumpkin, questions their sisterhood, forcing them to confront inner darkness or meet violent ends.
Mean Girls meets The Craft in this twisted, fun comedy horror. A bunch of hot witches who love fashion? Say no more! I was chuckling from start to finish. This is very much a campy, exaggerated vapid sort of film. You know these girls; the airheaded types with lower levels of intelligence. All in all I was super entertained but I was slightly let down by the ending. The director didn’t know how to land the plane. If it had been tightened up, Forbidden Fruits would’ve been my favourite movie on this list.
Rating: 3.5/5
3.) THE CYCLE
A daughter unravels her father’s dark past after his body, missing for 36 years, is found at a horrific crime scene.
I watched The Cycle because Stephen King recommended it. It had also been getting a fair bit of hype at this year’s Fantastic Fest. Unfortunately, it wasn’t really for me. I found it far too slow and uninteresting. I don’t mind a slow burn if the plot is captivating but in this instance, it wasn’t. What I did appreciate were the practical effects. The film was made on a lower budget, making the creature feature visuals that much more impressive. It would’ve been a 2.5/5 rating but the craftsmanship bumped things up half a star. Don’t take my word for it though – it may resonate with you.
Rating: 3/5
4.) V/H/S/ MIXTAPE
A new anthology emerges, in which music and sound become a source of terror.
Last, but not least, I want to touch on the latest instalment in the V/H/S/ franchise: Mixtape. I ranked the entire series here. It wasn’t my favourite, however, the highs were high. I absolutely loved the puppet segment. It was very me. I particularly enjoyed seeing the warehouse full of animatronics coming to life. That would’ve taken a considerable amount of work to put together. I also found the soundbooth short quite unique. The rest I didn’t care for. In my opinion, the theme of ‘mixtape’ needed to be stronger throughout the film. It wasn’t as cohesive as some of the others.
Rating: 3/5
Thank you so much for reading. Let me know if you have seen any of the movies mentioned and what you thought of them.
