Hi all!
I recently discovered a group on Goodreads called Top 5 Wednesday that post regular bookish topics for content creators to use. There are so many to choose from, I may make this a regular segment on my blog. Today, I am going to share my top 5 favourite audio books of all time. I hope you enjoy!
#1 – THE ILLUMINAE FILES BY JAY KRISTOFF AND AMIE KAUFMAN
To be fair, I’ve only listened to Illuminae and Gemina on audio, as the one for Obsidio has just been released. However, I know it will be phenomenal, like the other two. I have mentioned this a few times but I strongly recommend listening to and reading The Illuminae Files. The audio books are narrated by a big cast of talented individuals, bringing this epic, sci-fi trilogy to life. Each track includes intergalactic sound effects, songs and music, creating an amazing atmosphere. It is a full on immersive experience that you don’t want to miss!
#2 – THE LUNAR CHRONICLES BY MARISSA MEYER
I listened to the entire Lunar Chronicles on audio book, including the two novellas: Fairest and Stars Above. Each one (Cinder, Scarlet, Cress & Winter) was read entirely by the quirky Rebecca Soler. She does such a great job voicing both the male and female characters. If you haven’t read the books yet, or wish to re-read them, I strongly suggest trying them out on audio. They are simply magical!
#3 – ELEANOR & PARK BY RAINBOW ROWELL
Eleanor & Park is one of the most beautiful and heart-wrenching YA stories I have ever read. Listening to it on audio enhanced all of my emotions, making me a sobbing mess by the end. If you really want to feel every inch of this beautiful tale, I recommend hearing it told out loud. A man narrates Park and a woman narrates Eleanor. I swear there was an actual chemistry between them. It felt so real to me.
#4 – I AM THE MESSENGER BY MARKUS ZUSAK
I borrowed this audio book from the library and after finishing it, I bought a copy to own. I absolutely loved listening to this story every morning on my drive to work. The narrator had such a hilarious Australian accent, that made me laugh multiple times. It always brightened my mood. Sometimes, driving can be stressful, especially if you’re stuck in traffic. I would highly recommend listening to I Am The Messenger. It will make the journey much more enjoyable.
#5 – THE ROSIE PROJECT & THE ROSIE EFFECT BY GRAEME SIMSION
I had to mention The Rosie Project because it was the first audio book I ever bought and listened to. In this story, we follow an autistic man looking for love. The narrator does such an excellent job portraying the protagonist’s social awkwardness and monotonous voice. I understand this novel is quite controversial, regarding the representation of autism but I found it to be quite respectful and accurate. I believe this duology is a great place to start if you’re curious about trying an audio book. You don’t have to pay a strong amount attention like you would if you were listening to a high-fantasy story.

Thank you so much for reading! What are some of your favourite audio books? I would love new recommendations!
Peace & Love xoxo
