Blogmas – Coles Vegan Christmas Roast Review!

Hi all!

Today I am going to be review the new vegan Christmas Roast from Coles (our local supermarket). I had heard many mixed reviews, so I was curious to cook it and see for myself. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

First off, this roast is $15, which is incredibly expensive for what you get. The box says serves 5. That’s true if you are happy with a tiny piece! It comes with a fruit chutney, that needs to be microwaved. According to the instructions, you place the roast on a baking/oven-safe dish, season it however you like and cook for 45 minutes.

The image above shows what it looks like fresh out of the box. We topped it with olive oil and put it in the oven. As I began to carve, it fell apart. Do not let the image on the box fool you. It does not slice easily.

It is very difficult to cut evenly. The texture is super meaty, but fluffy. I liked how authentic it looked, but it wasn’t an overly ‘attractive roast’. I served it with mashed potato, chickpeas and steamed broccoli, with vegan gravy on top and fruit chutney on the side.

I have to say, it was really delicious. I saw one vegan comment that it was the worst thing she had ever tried. I honestly don’t understand why. It was so yummy. The chutney was tarte (sweet but sour), working really well with both the roast and the sides. It tasted like a regular chicken roast. It filled us up nicely. If it wasn’t so expensive, I would buy it again. I honestly recommend it. Aside from the cost and presentation, it was worth it.

I hope you enjoyed this review! What is your favourite veggie roast? Thanks for reading.

Peace & Love xoxo

  1. As a vegetarian aiming to become vegan I tried Coles plant based Christmas Roast with Sweet Chtney Sauce. I had no trouble cooking it and it was easy to slice didn’t fall apart at all but I just put it in a tray on baking paper and cooked it for the recommended time without adding any oil or other seasonings. It was delicious and the sauce very yummy and so easy to heat in microwave. I roasted other vegetables in a separate tray to make it a full roast dinner. I highly recommend this roast and feel it is a good start to satisfying your taste buds while making the transfer to meatless roasts. I would eat it every Sunday if it was available. I give it 5 stars.

    1. I’m so glad it cooked well for you!! Well done for giving it a go. It’s really yummy 😋
