The Fortune Teller Readathon – My Wrap-Up!

Hi all!

Happy Autumn! Today I will be sharing my wrap-up for the Fortune Teller Readathon, which ran for the entire month of February. Check out my TBR here. I’m thrilled to report I read more than originally intended. I completed all of Path 2 and 4/5 challenges from Path 3! I had so much fun partaking in this readathon. Without further ado, let’s get into my thoughts!

PATH 2

‘THE NEW FRIEND’ – READ A BOOK YOU THINK WILL BE YOUR NEW FAVOURITE!

img_4485

This book definitely became a new favourite for me. I am confident it will hit my Top 10 Books of 2020. Eleanor Oliphant completely stole my heart! This novel is both laugh-out-loud funny and cry into the pages, sad. The character development was some of the best I’ve ever witnessed. The Eleanor we get at the beginning, is completely different by the end. I love that the romance was minimal; not overpowering the main plot. There is a big theme of overcoming trauma in this story, which I can currently relate to.

I gave it 5/5 stars.

‘WRITTEN IN THE STARS’ – READ A 4 OR 5 STAR PREDICTED BOOK!

Unfortunately, this book did not receive a 4 or 5 star rating from me. It had such promise, but in my opinion, operated like a roller-coaster. Some parts were really high and exciting and others, low and not that interesting. The book is supposed to be about a secret society, but there was such a big emphasis on Google and modern technology, it took the adventurous spirit away. It was just okay. I enjoyed the ending and the premise, but I didn’t care for the characters or execution.

I gave it 3/5 stars.

‘THE HOPELESS ROMANTIC’ – READ A LOVE STORY!

I’m a huge fan of Sandhya Menon’s books and this was no exception! I don’t understand why other reviewers see Twinkle as self-centered. She was certainly flawed, but she was also a teenage girl, fighting for her dreams. I could relate to her on so many levels, appreciating her character development. The romance was sweet and I always enjoy books that focus on friendships. Big points for some of the feminist messages within the story.

I gave it 5/5 stars.

‘THE DARK ONE’ – READ A BOOK YOU THINK WILL HAVE A GREAT VILLAIN!

img_4298

Wow! This book reminded me how much I love dystopian fiction. It has been a hot minute since I dived into this genre, but it didn’t take long for me to fall again. The concept was so unique and well executed (pun totally intended). I’m so excited to read the next two books in the trilogy. I was on the edge of my seat the entire way through; shocked multiple times by twists I didn’t see coming. Also, I was correct in predicting that this novel would have a great villain. Read it and see!

I gave it 5/5 stars.

‘THE OUTCAST’ – READ A BOOK YOU THINK YOU’LL LOVE BUT OTHERS HATE!

img_4297

This book has very mixed reviews, but I really liked it. The subject matter is extremely dark and traumatic, so won’t work for everybody. What I appreciated, was the juxtaposition of Adam and Julian – how they brought meaning to each other’s lives. The writing was quite raw – expect to feel uncomfortable. No matter the ending, Julian will never be the same and that is real life.

I gave it 4/5 stars.

PATH 3

‘THE MAGICIAN’ – READ A BOOK FROM AN AUTHOR YOU LOVE!

Did I mention I love Sandhya Menon? This was a cute little short story (available only as an e-novella) following Dimple and Rishi and how they feel about the prospect of marriage someday. Not a whole lot happened, but it was still adorable!

I gave it 4/5 stars.

‘DIFFERENCES ASIDE’ – READ A BOOK WITH A DIVERSE CAST OF CHARACTERS!

img_4545

Nothing says diverse like an African inspired fantasy novel! I wasn’t as disappointed in the sequel, as a lot of other readers. I felt the action was consistent and fast paced. My only issue was the amount of bickering between Zelie and Amari. In the first book, they would’ve died for each other and in this one, they were so hostile – especially Zelie. It was such a shame. Overall, I enjoyed it.

I gave it 4/5 stars.

‘THE NEW ADDITION’ – READ A BRAND NEW RELEASE!

img_4260

I was sent an ARC of this book from NetGalley. I wrote a full, spoiler-free review of this new release here. I also interviewed the author, which you can check out here. I truly loved this story. It was right up my alley! The language was so poetic and beautiful, but still had the ability to unsettle the reader. I was so invested in the characters and plot. Jo did an incredible job, creating a setting that felt so vivid and creepy. The ending was perfection. Huge fan of this book!

I gave it 5/5 stars.

‘THE STAR-CROSSED LOVERS’ – READ A BOOK WITH YOUR NEW OTP!

img_4544

I blew through Heartstoppers Vol 2 in one sitting; crying my eyes out. Nick and Charlie’s love is so pure, this series makes my heart want to explode with happiness! I think I enjoyed this one more than Vol 1. I can’t wait for Vol 3 to become available at my local library. I don’t know what to else to say. Please read this series if you haven’t already!

I gave it 5/5 stars.

Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and what you thought of them. Did you partake in the readathon? Thanks for reading!

Peace & Love xoxo
