Black Resilience Booksta Challenge #18 – Read & Review A Book About Black Leadership

Hi all!

Today I am back for Day #18 of the Black Resilience Booksta Challenge. I explained all the rules in my first post here. I’m hoping this will inspire other readers to read, review and amplify more black voices. Feel free to join me! You can refer to the template below, plus check out the dedicated category under the Books & Reading menu of this blog, for all the posts that came before this one.

I chose We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for Day #18, because it is a personal and powerful essay, adapted from her much admired Ted talk. Listen here. She offers readers a unique definition of feminism, for the twenty-first century – one rooted in inclusion and awareness.

As mentioned above, this is an essay, so it’s quite short. Having said that, it’s deeply personal and eloquently argued. Chimamanda draws from her own experiences growing up in Africa and how she defines feminism as the social, economic and political equality of the sexes. It demands an annihilation of the gender hierarchy, as opposed to women ruling over men, as is often misinterpreted. I found it quite inspiring and impactful. I recommend everybody either listen to her talk or pick up a physical copy.

Please order a copy here.

Thank you so much for reading, I will see you next time for Day #19.

Peace & Love xoxo
