Black Resilience Booksta Challenge #20 – Read & Review A Black Thriller

Hi all!

Today I am back for Day #20 of the Black Resilience Booksta Challenge. I explained all the rules in my first post here. I’m hoping this will inspire other readers to read, review and amplify more black voices. Feel free to join me! You can refer to the template below. You can also check out the dedicated category, for all the posts that came before this one.

Update: I stopped at Day 20/30, due to life commitments. However, I have still continued reading from POC authors.

I chose My Sister, The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite for Day #20, because it is a fantastic black thriller, that will shock and unnerve you. When Korede’s dinner is interrupted one night by a distress call from her sister, Ayoola, she knows what’s expected of her: bleach, rubber gloves, nerves of steel and a strong stomach. This will be the third boyfriend Ayoola’s put down, that Korede is expected to clear away. She should probably go to the police for the good of Nigeria, but she loves her sister and as they say, family always comes first. Until that is, Ayoola starts dating the doctor where Korede works as a nurse. Korede’s affection for him means sacrificing one for the other, lest he too wind up with a knife in his back.

This novella was so enjoyable to read! It was short, interesting and creepy. I will admit, I wanted more clarification about a certain incident, but overall, I highly recommend it. It really begs the question: would you choose your sibling or an innocent life? I definitely want more thrillers set in NigeriaOyinkan is a very talented author, with a lot to offer.

Please order a copy here.

Thank you so much for reading. Peace & Love xoxo
