Hi all!
I did the same post last year (read here) and unfortunately, only 2/5 were actually released. This time – unless there are circumstances beyond control – the movies listed below will air in 2023. 2022 gave us some outstanding spooky films, but I think the new year will outdo itself. Without further ado, here are my most anticipated horrors for the next twelve months!
1.) M3GAN
We are kicking off 2023 with two of my favourite things: 1.) a horror film about a creepy doll and 2.) a horror film about a creepy doll, directed by James Wan. M3GAN will be released in cinemas the first week of January. It follows a woman named Gemma, who finds herself the unexpected caregiver of her young niece. Having designed an AI prototype that resembles a human girl, she decides to gift her creation, in the hopes it will comfort little Cady. As expected, that decision leads to unimaginable consequences. The trailer looks insanely good. I love how lifelike they’ve made the doll. She’s beautiful but unsettling. I cannot wait to watch her dance and wreak havoc!

2.) Insidious: The Red Door
Set ten years after the first two films, Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson), heads east to drop his son Dalton off at an idyllic, ivy-covered university. However, Dalton’s college dream becomes a nightmare, when the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both. The story is directed by Patrick, written by Leigh Whannell and produced by James Wan, alongside Jason Blum and Oren Peli, the creator of Paranormal Activity. Words cannot express the excitement I feel. I know it won’t disappoint! Check out my franchise ranking here.

3.) Saw X
Saw X is my most anticipated release for 2023. I love this franchise with every fibre of my being. Check out my series ranking here and five favourite traps here. We can expect it to hit cinemas October 27. It has been confirmed Tobin Bell will reprise his role as Jigsaw and Shawnee Smith, as Amanda Young. I cannot wait for more John Kramer.

4.) Knock At The Cabin
M. Night Shyamalan returns with Knock at the Cabin, hitting cinemas February 3rd. This movie is based off Paul Tremblay’s novel: The Cabin at the End of the World. While vacationing at a remote cabin in the woods, a young girl and her parents are taken hostage by four armed strangers, who demand they make an unthinkable choice. Confused, scared and with limited access to the outside world, the family must decide what they believe, before all is lost. I am a huge fan of the talented director and the cast, which includes Rupert Grint. Don’t miss this one!

5.) Evil Dead Rise
Last, but certainly not least, we have Evil Dead Rise. It will hit cinemas April 21st. You can check out my franchise ranking here. It follows two sisters, who find themselves in a fight for their lives, when an ancient book gives birth to bloodthirsty demons, running amok in a Los Angeles apartment building. It’s going to be graphic, violent and full of gore. I’m excited.
