Bramble: The Mountain King – New Release Horror Game Review!

Hi all!

Today I am reviewing horror game, Bramble: The Mountain King. It is now available to purchase on Steam. Inspired by dark Nordic fables, Bramble follows Olle, who goes on a quest in the wilderness to save his sister, Lillemore, from evil. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

BRAMBLE: THE MOUNTAIN KING

THE GAMEPLAY

Bramble is a single player game. You navigate as Olle, through enchanting and scary landscapes to find your sister. I found the controls to be quite seamless, but be warned, some of the boss battles are intense; requiring swift dexterity to jump around. There are many ways to die but thankfully, the checkpoints are generous and frequent. If you enjoy a challenge against a stunning backdrop, this is the game for you. It has a great amount of gameplay time, is very re-playable and even offers a collecting side-quest for completionists. It reminded me of Little Nightmares meets Brothers. There is no higher compliment than that!

WHAT I ENJOYED

I enjoyed pretty much everything! The whimsical, mystical setting gave me such childhood nostalgia. It had a Brother’s Grimm quality to it. Fairytale in appearance, with a dark twist. As you can see below, the game is rooted in Nordic mythology and folklore. You must battle a lake monster and so much more. I loved learning about these creatures along the way. Please note, this story is not for children. It contains strong horror elements, featuring plenty of gore and violence. I thoroughly enjoyed not knowing what was around the corner. There was so much to see and marvel at. You will be shocked by what one small child must face.

WHAT I DIDN’T ENJOY

There was only one part I didn’t enjoy and that’s because I found it super difficult. Toward the end, you enter a nightmare-scape, where you’re expected to survive the same trials, across three levels. Luckily, it saves after each section, but I struggled so much, it has put me off re-playing the game.

OVERALL STAR RATING

I gave it 5/5 stars. It was a truly exceptional game. I highly recommend playing it.

Please let me know if you have played the game. Thanks for reading!

Peace & Love xoxo
