Talk To Me – New Release Horror Movie Review!

Hi all!

Today I am reviewing new-release, horror: Talk To Me. It hit cinemas in Australia this month, allowing me the pleasure of seeing it on the big screen. When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill. That is, until one of them goes too far and opens the door to the spirit world, forcing them to choose who to trust: the dead or the living. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

WHAT WORKED:

Everything! Talk To Me has already been dubbed the horror movie of the year. It’s even more impressive that a.) it came from Australian cinema. As an Aussie, I can attest that we don’t always produce the best stuff and b.) that it was a directorial debut from the Philippou brothers, who run a successful YouTube channel named RackaRacka. Furthermore, there was excellent and refreshing representation with an African Australian lead (Sophie Wilde), a transgender actor and a cast member from the Pacific Islands. From the soundtrack, to the scares, to the shocking scenes, this film was captivating from start to finish. It was well-paced and made sense, which is a plus when you’re watching an A24 feature. With a completely original storyline and a heart wrenching, underlying message of grief, this is one new release you won’t want to miss.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK:

There isn’t much that didn’t work. If I had to nitpick, I would say there were a couple of plotlines that didn’t go anywhere. I do believe there will be a prequel in the future, so maybe the creators are saving that information for later.

OVERALL STAR RATING:

I gave it 5/5 stars. It’s easily the best horror movie of the year.

Thank you so much for reading! Have you seen Talk To Me?

Peace & Love xoxo
