Hi all!
Today I am reviewing new-release, horror: Leviticus. It hit cinemas this month, allowing me the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen. Two teenage boys must escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most – each other.. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

WHAT WORKED:
Leviticus is a very important horror film; especially for the LGBTQ+ community. The story and overarching themes will resonate with many people – to say nothing of the acting. I truly felt the chemistry between the two leads. I bought their romance hook, line and sinker. In particular, Joe Bird stole the show. As an Australian, I am normally sceptical about cinema from my area of the globe. However, the quality has increased exponentially in recent years with movies like Talk To Me, Bring Her Back, Dangerous Animals etc. Furthermore, the gore was pretty intense. I wasn’t expecting certain scenes to be so graphic. It wasn’t afraid to take it there. There is a lot to be said for implied horror. You don’t always need jump-scares to do the trick. Just knowing an entity can strike at any moment, is enough to leave you unsettled. I truly enjoyed my viewing experience.
WHAT DIDN’T WORK:
Fans of It Follows are either going to enjoy the similarities in Leviticus or despise them. Be prepared, it is extremely comparable; down to the ending of the film. It didn’t bother me as much but I was consistently connecting the two. I will also state (without spoiling) there are certain rules surrounding the entity that take away from the tension/dread. Those specific choices did affect my overall rating. I believe they shot themselves in the foot by adding such limitations. Additionally, I wanted to see the entity of Naim, not just Ryan. I wish it had been filmed from the perspective of both boys. That felt like a missed opportunity.
OVERALL STAR RATING:
I gave it 4/5 stars. An excellent horror romance.
Have you seen Leviticus? What did you think of it?
Peace & Love xoxo
