Hi all!
Today I am reviewing V/H/S/85. In the latest instalment, we follow a heart-pounding journey into the grim underbelly of the forgotten ’80s, through five tales of terror on a taped-over, made-for-TV documentary. If you wish to check out my ranking of the franchise, please click here. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
WHAT WORKED:
1985 is probably the goriest entry yet. If you’re squeamish, heed this warning. A successful V/H/S/ movie will deliver a good mix of stories that overall, are more entertaining than not. I believe 85 did exactly that. I thought the frame narrative was clever, tying in well with the rest of the tales. It kept me guessing until the very end. To my delight, one of the segments was directed by Scott Derrickson. You can check out my ranking of his horror works here. There were some truly original and fascinating concepts introduced, making it an enjoyable ride.
WHAT DIDN’T WORK:
Aside from some of the outfits and hairstyles, I didn’t get 1985 vibes. Furthermore, I was not a fan of one of the stories. Despite a meta ‘iPhone’ joke, I wasn’t sure what the point of it was.
OVERALL STAR RATING:
I gave it 4/5 stars. A really solid instalment in the franchise!
Thank you so much for reading! Have you seen V/H/S/85?
Peace & Love xoxo
