Tarot – New Release Horror Movie Review!

Hi all!

Today I am reviewing new-release, horror: Tarot. It hit cinemas in Australia this month, allowing me the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen. Friends unwittingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within a cursed deck of tarot cards. One by one, they come face to face with fate, racing against death to escape the future foretold in their readings. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

WHAT WORKED:

I tend to rate based on my own personal enjoyment level and I had a blast in the cinema. This movie was made for me. I love horoscopes, tarot cards, cursed objects and Final Destination style deaths. This film had all of that in spades. Granted, it was less gory. The killings take place mainly off screen but there are still some nail-biting lead-ups. There was a lot of comic relief peppered throughout, which I found genuinely funny. I loved that the figures on the cards came to life; carrying out the fortunes as was dealt to the teens. The scene with The Fool was my absolute favourite. This is the perfect popcorn horror. Gather a group of friends together, put this movie on, read each other’s horoscopes – make a whole night of it! It’s very rewatchable.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK:

I recognise the pitfalls of this movie. It is extremely predictable, tropey and full of cheesy jump scares. However, when it comes to these types of films, we need to suspend our judgement because they aren’t meant to be taken seriously. This was made purely for fun. I hope viewers see it that way.

OVERALL STAR RATING:

I gave it 4/5 stars. I had the best time with this film, regardless of what the critics say.

Thank you so much for reading! Have you seen Tarot

Peace & Love xoxo

  1. […] and there is very much a place for them amongst the horror community. I would liken this one to Tarot or Until Dawn. I’m also a ginormous sucker for a cursed object. I wrote an entire novella […]
