Hi all!
Today I am reviewing new-release, horror: Terrifier 3. It hit cinemas in Australia this month, giving me the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen. After surviving Art the Clown’s Halloween massacre, Sienna and her brother struggle to rebuild their shattered lives. As the holiday season approaches, they try to embrace the Christmas spirit; leaving the horrors of the past behind. However, just when they think they’re safe, Art returns, determined to turn their holiday cheer into a new nightmare. Check out my ranking of the entire franchise here. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
WHAT WORKED:
This was the first Terrifier film I had the opportunity of seeing on the big screen. My cinema experience was so much fun. There were no fainting or vomiting patrons. We were all gore aficionados, having a good time. The third instalment managed to shock and appall me – in all the best ways. The child deaths were ‘tasteful’ – meaning they were off screen and non-offensive. Art the Clown, as always, stole the show. His obsession with Santa Claus was downright hilarious. As a villain, he is so good at switching between childlike innocence and downright terror. I also liked that it featured Vicky, the main antagonist from Terrifier (2016). She was the perfect disgusting companion. Finally, I need to mention Lauren LaVera is the best modern Final Girl in the horror genre. She gave this role everything she had, just like the sequel. I adore her.
WHAT DIDN’T WORK:
To be honest, I thought the sequel was more disturbing. I kept expecting a moment to completely stomp all over the bedroom scene from Terrifier 2 and in my opinion, it never quite got there. Sure, the blood and gore was insane, but I was not half as rattled as the time before. I could handle it. To add to my negative critiques, I felt the acting was very cheesy, in a wholesome way. They were giving Hallmark Christmas movie, with the depravity level turned up to 1,000! Aside from that, I have nothing bad to say. Damien Leone took the critiques from the sequel and applied them well. No gender was safe!
OVERALL STAR RATING:
I gave it 4.5/5 stars. This franchise continues to push the boundaries and entertain.
Peace & Love xoxo
