Heart Eyes – New Release Horror Movie Review!

Hi all!

Today I am reviewing new-release, horror: Heart Eyes. It hit cinemas this month, allowing me the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen. A masked maniac with glowing red eyes, returns every Valentine’s Day to terrorise unsuspecting couples. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

WHAT WORKED:

Valentine’s Day slasher is such a great concept for a burgeoning horror franchise. I can see this series continuing. It was a fun ride, full of unique kills and unbridled splatter. I like that they did not hold back on the gore and violence. Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding stole the show; displaying great chemistry and personality. There were real moments of sweetness between them, only for it to be interrupted by pure carnage. The creators nailed the blend of comedy and horror. The pacing was excellent and there were plenty of scares that genuinely took me by surprise. All in all, this film deserves to join the ranks of classic holiday slashers.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK:

Sadly, the movie lost me at the end, when the killer’s motivations were revealed. Not only were their intentions weak, they truly made no sense. Furthermore, there were some glaringly obvious plot holes that should’ve been addressed, in order to strengthen the final act. I like that I didn’t see the reveal coming, but at the same time, it took away the menace of the murderer. It’s very hard to take something so ridiculous, seriously. It was also far too cheesy and corny for me. The confessions of romance before the credits began to roll made me cringe. Speaking of, don’t forget to stick around for an interesting mid-credit scene.

OVERALL STAR RATING:

I gave it 3.5/5 stars. It’s a fun, popcorn-horror to enjoy with friends.

Have you seen Heart Eyes? What did you think of it?

Peace & Love xoxo
