Hi all!
Today I am reviewing new-release movie: Wuthering Heights. It hit cinemas this month, allowing me the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen. Tragedy strikes when Heathcliff falls in love with Catherine Earnshaw, a woman from a wealthy family in 18th-century England. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

WHAT WORKED:
Wuthering Heights took my breath away. The novel is one of my favourite classics of all time. I have seen many a film adaptation but none as cinematic as this one. If nothing else, it is worth seeing for the visuals. Every single frame and shot was a work of art. Every jewel, costume and wallpaper blessed my eyeballs. It reminded me of a Tim Burton feature meets a Baz Luhrmann one. It was all so grandiose and extravagant, with dark moody undertones. Not only that, the chemistry between Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi was palpable. I bought their love hook, line and sinker. By the end, there wasn’t a dry eye in the cinema. It helps to look as good as they both do! I’ll never tire of the forbidden romance trope – even one as toxic as theirs. I was there for a steamy romp on the moors and I got it!
WHAT DIDN’T WORK:
If you’re looking for a faithful adaptation of the novel, you’ll be disappointed. This is Emerald Fennell’s very creative and dramatic interpretation of the story. I went in knowing/accepting that fact and enjoyed myself. What is similar to the source material are the toxic characters. They are awful and selfish. You are not meant to like Cathy or Heathcliff. You aren’t technically meant to root for them. However, you can’t help but pity them and the star-crossed lovers situation they find themselves in, very similar to Romeo & Juliet. It’s definitely not going to work for everyone but it did for me.
OVERALL STAR RATING:
I gave it 4.5/5 stars. A visually stunning masterpiece.
Have you seen Wuthering Heights? What did you think of it?
Peace & Love xoxo
