Hi all!
Today I am reviewing new-release, horror: Passenger. It hit cinemas this month, allowing me the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen. A few weeks into their van life adventure, a young couple witnesses an accident that leaves the driver dead. Soon, they are pursued by a demonic stalker who follows them wherever they go. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

WHAT WORKED:
The opening had potential. I was intrigued to see where the film would go after the Passenger revealed himself for the first time. Furthermore, there were moments of genuine tension and dread; specifically during the parking lot scene. I liked the way the scares and camera angles were utilised there. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end.
WHAT DIDN’T WORK:
This is (by a country mile), the worst horror movie I’ve seen this year. I nearly walked out the cinema several times – which is rare for me. It was unbelievably bad. The script was awful, the acting was cringy and the plot so contrived, I had to stifle my groans multiple times. It’s such a shame because the director, André Øvredal, has made some wonderful films (Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, The Autopsy Of Jane Doe, Trollhunter etc). I know he’s much better than this. It was just one nonsensical, trope-filled experience from start to finish. I didn’t give a single iota about the two main characters. They were one-dimensional automatons that made terrible decisions. Aside from being stalked by a demonic entity, their biggest problem was being tired of travelling in their van. Am I meant to feel bad for them? Not to mention, the shoddy writing that drove (pun intended) the story from Point A to Point B. How convenient that the one specific deity the lead prays to, just happens to be the creature’s Achilles Heel. You can’t make this up! Finally, there’s only so much you can do with this concept before it becomes repetitive. It should’ve been a 30-minute short. I’m angry because my local theatre decided not to show Obsession; instead subjecting me to this dumpster fire.
OVERALL STAR RATING:
I gave it 2/5 stars. Do not waste your time!
Have you seen Passenger? What did you think of it?
Peace & Love xoxo
