Hi all!
Today I am reviewing new-release, horror: A Quiet Place: Day One. It hit cinemas in Australia late last month, allowing me the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen. When New York City comes under attack from an alien invasion, a woman and other survivors try to find a way to safety. They soon learn they must remain absolutely silent, as the mysterious creatures are drawn to the slightest sound. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
WHAT WORKED:
I was legitimately surprised at my emotional reaction to this film. I was crying within the first five minutes; continuing to do so until the end. My mental health was entirely dependent on the fate of the cat. This prequel was very moving and touching. It had a lot of depth to it. Lupita and Joseph’s acting was phenomenal. It was beautiful to see them form close bonds so quickly in the face of tragedy. The core message of the movie is having the power to choose how to spend the last few moments of your life. I highly recommend checking it out. The aerial shots, cinematography and post-apocalyptic cityscape of New York are truly something to behold.
WHAT DIDN’T WORK:
The biggest critique I had was the prequel still didn’t explain who these creatures were, what their purpose was and how they came to Earth. Furthermore, the movie wasn’t overly scary or gory. The terror mainly lay in the tension-building.
OVERALL STAR RATING:
I gave it 4.5/5 stars. It’s an immersive experience you won’t want to miss.
Thank you so much for reading! Have you seen A Quiet Place: Day One?
Peace & Love xoxo
