What I’ve Learnt In Six Years As A First Time Parent

Hi all!

Happy birthday my darling Abigail!

Our daughter has officially turned 6! I truly cannot believe it! In keeping with tradition, I am sharing everything I have learnt in six years as a first time parent. If you would like to see my past Parenting Reflections, click the heading. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

This year, Abigail started Primary School. As a child that struggles with change and new routines, we were genuinely concerned how she would fare. To our complete surprise, she embraced the experience with open arms. It definitely helped having a gentle and soft Prep teacher; willing to work with our daughter’s needs. She loves the structure of school. It’s reliable, fun and challenging. Abigail is excelling with the academic side and the social aspects. It’s been so nice taking her to school every morning, watching her write her own name, engaging with other classmates, picking her up and making a big fuss of the work she brings home.

We have been living in Hervey Bay for two years now. Our winters are warm, beautiful and sunny. Abigail loves spending time in the backyard, kicking a soccer ball or jumping on the trampoline. She has become much more independent. A treat for us parents!

I am really proud of Abigail’s progress in such a short time. It isn’t easy spending five days a week at a new school, learning new things. She is doing such an incredible job. We are still attending weekly swimming lessons, which is great for her confidence and water safety. As you can see below, the beach is a big part of our life up north.

Since my last post, Abigail has had her tonsils removed. This has improved her quality of life greatly. She eats well, sleeps so much better and of course, has a happier demeanour. Her surgeon told us she had the biggest tonsils he had ever seen for a girl her age. Not only that, her adenoids were completely covering her nostrils. Poor thing! I’m so glad she is free of all that now.

Overall, my baby girl has the biggest, kindest heart and to me, that is what makes a successful human being. Thank you so much for reading and sticking with me in the journey of parenting. It’s certainly not easy, but it’s a lot of fun and I’m so lucky to be her mother.

Peace & Love xoxo
