Hi all!
Today I am reviewing Spanish horror movie: The Coffee Table. Jesus and Maria, a couple who have just become parents, decide to buy a new coffee table – a decision that will change their entire existence. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
WHAT WORKED:
The Coffee Table is nothing if not original! It has a very unique concept, with a horrifying outcome. You won’t be able to look away. What unfolds on the screen needs to be seen to be believed. It will leave you with your jaw on the floor. It doesn’t hold back on a very confronting situation. I have to commend the two lead actors for their performance. This would not have been an easy movie to act in, so major props to them!
WHAT DIDN’T WORK:
This film is very difficult to recommend. Major trigger warning for expecting mothers or parents with newborn children. Once the main plot point hits, the pacing is quite slow in the build-up to what we know is coming. However, that doesn’t make it any less interesting. It’s more torturous because as a viewer, you are anticipating a deluge of grief and sadness. You may also question the point of the movie. Was it necessary? That’s not for me to answer but I understand those that find it to be in poor taste.
OVERALL STAR RATING:
I gave it 3.5/5 stars. I was thoroughly entertained, despite the extremely disturbing nature of the film.
Thank you so much for reading! Have you seen The Coffee Table?
Peace & Love xoxo
