V/H/S Beyond – Shudder Movie Review!

Hi all!

Today I am reviewing V/H/S Beyond. In the newest instalment, six bloodcurdling tapes unleash horror in a sci-fi-inspired hellscape, pushing the boundaries of fear and suspense. Check out my ranking of the entire franchise here. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

WHAT WORKED:

A V/H/S film is good when you enjoy the majority of the segments. I thought it a refreshing instalment in the franchise. Instead of focusing on yet another decade, the creators decided to explore all things extra-terrestrial. They also introduced big name directors like Mike Flanagan, Justin Long and Kate Siegel. Each segment was very different from the other. There were zombies, creatures, aliens, robots, mutants and more. The action was intense from start to finish, with excellent gore, kills and scares. In particular, I loved ‘Stork’ and ‘Fur Babies’ – featuring a very Annie Wilkes style character. I was impressed by the creativity more than anything. Aliens are not a new concept in the horror genre but Beyond did an excellent job providing a new interpretation of them. The closing scene was simply chilling.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK:

I must admit, I liked Mike Flanagan and Kate Siegel’s segment the least. It was too short. Plus, once the horror began, the filming was so distorted, it was difficult to see what was going on. I really thought going in, it would be my favourite. Aside from that, I don’t have any complaints.

OVERALL STAR RATING:

I gave it 4/5 stars. It was a really solid instalment in the franchise. Highly recommend!

Thank you so much for reading! Have you seen V/H/S Beyond?

Peace & Love xoxo
