Hi all!
Today I am reviewing new-release, horror: Abigail. It hit cinemas in Australia this month, allowing me the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen. A group of would-be criminals, kidnap the 12-year-old daughter of a powerful underworld figure. Holding her for ransom in an isolated mansion, their plan starts to unravel when they discover their young captive is actually a bloodthirsty vampire. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
WHAT WORKED:
This film worked on so many levels. It was made by the same production company that did Ready or Not and the newer Scream films. It felt like a lot of different horror movies in one, plus a little Resident Evil. I loved that it wasn’t just another tired vampire story. It was a breath of fresh air to see a little ballerina outwit all her foes. The old house was the perfect setting. It had some genuinely unnerving scares. Not to mention, the gore shocked me in the best way. It gave us so much blood! Every single cast member did a fantastic job of setting themselves apart. You knew their stereotypes instantly. It was such a fun, wild ride that kept me on the edge of my seat. Furthermore, my daughter is named Abigail, so I’m a bit biased!
WHAT DIDN’T WORK:
I felt the ending dragged a bit. In my opinion, it could have been a near-perfect film if there had been some tighter editing. I was also a bit confused about the vampirism transference lore. Aside from that, it was a stellar movie!
OVERALL STAR RATING:
I gave it 4/5 stars. Absolutely worth a watch!
Thank you so much for reading! Have you seen Abigail?
Peace & Love xoxo
